Bagi orang Kristen, tahukah anda apa yang Alkitab katakan tentang bentuk Bumi ini?
Mari coba kita perhatikan satu ayat dibawah ini..
Yesaya 40:22 (TB) "Dia yang bertakhta di atas bulatan bumi yang penduduknya seperti belalang; Dia yang membentangkan langit seperti kain dan memasangnya seperti kemah kediaman!"
Isaiah 40:22 (KJV) "It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:"
Circle seharusnya diterjemahkan menjadi Lingkaran, bukan Bulatan.
Dan kalaupun memang ayat aslinya memaksudkan Bumi yang berbentuk bulat, kenapa tidak menggunakan kalimat "#Round of the earth" atau "#Sphere of the earth", atau sekalian "#Ball of the earth"??
Perhatikan juga ayat lain di :
Yesaya 22:18 (TB) "dan menggulung engkau keras-keras menjadi suatu gulungan dan menggulingkan engkau seperti bola ke tanah yang luas; di situlah engkau akan mati, dan di situlah akan tinggal kereta-kereta kemuliaanmu, hai engkau yang memalukan keluarga tuanmu!"
Isaiah 22:18 (KJV) "He will surely violently turn and toss thee like a ball into a large country: there shalt thou die, and there the chariots of thy glory shall be the shame of thy lord's house."
Dua kata berbeda yang digunakan untuk menggambarkan sesuatu yang berbeda.
Ini Bulat (Sphere) seperti Bola (Ball) :
A sphere (from Greek σφαῖρα — sphaira, "globe, ball"[1]) is a perfectly round geometrical object in three-dimensional space that is the surface of a completely round ball, (viz., analogous to a circular object in two dimensions).[2]

Kalau yang ini Lingkaran (Circle) :

Mungkin masih ada yang berpendapat, "ah belum tentu terjemahan dari Bahasa Aslinya (Ibrani) seperti itu". :)
